Orbea To Unveil First Carbon 29er
Orbea USA is blazing new trails in the mountain bike world with the introduction of the world’s first carbon monocoque 29-inch mountain bike. It is the most advanced big wheel bike ever made. It is a bike with soul.
“With the introduction of the Alma 29 we are making our mark on the US mountain bike market. We wanted to create a bike unlike anything else. You get the benefit of the bigger wheels, but it steers quickly, is ultra-stable and is an unbelievable climber,” said Tony Karklins, Orbea USA’s managing director.
The Alma 29 eliminates the one big complaint of 29-inch mountain bikes - weight. Using a one-piece monocoque front triangle and high modulus carbon fibers, Orbea was able to create a frame that weighs only 1300 grams. By using steeper geometry, radical shaping on the downtube and a unique chainstay configuration, Orbea is able to create a bike that is laterally stiff, quick handling and very comfortable.
Orbea has made a name for itself in the United States with its award winning carbon road bikes. This success has created pent up demand for carbon mountain bikes, led by Orbea’s sponsored riders.
“Our athletes helped drive this project. Racers have seen the light on how fast and comfortable 29ers can be, and now we can give them a bike that is ultra-competitive from a weight standpoint. 29ers are taking off, and we knew we could make a bike that rides better and faster than anything else out there,” said Tony Karklins, Orbea USA’s managing director.
Orbea will officially unveil the bike at the Sea Otter Classic, April 6-9. The Alma 29 will be available this spring.
