We were forwarded an image and some information by On One’s “Shiggy” regarding something new coming from the busy minds at On One. We have told you all about the new ideas in store for carbon fiber bikes, titanium bikes, aluminum and steel bikes, along with components here . Now they are already busily delving into new projects. This one is based on the “adventure bike” idea, where one bike could be the primary platform for off-road, mixed terrain, or pavement adventures by bicycle.

As you can see here, the bike is similar to a Scandal, made from aluminum, and will also feature the On One “Swap-out” modular drop out system which would make for a single speed or geared compatible bike. From there the design departs from the Scandal to include a geometry/design meant for off road drop bars, like On One’s Midge bar. This keeps spacers at bay, and means you won’t have to scramble to look for some odd, “sky-scraper” stem to fit those drop bars.

Interestingly, the new “adventure bike” will be capable of using a compact road group (think SRAM’s Apex) or a mountain bike drive train, further enhancing the versatility of the frame. (Note: Shiggy says the current build is from parts on hand with 50/34 rings setup with a “road” chain line.) The tire clearance for this will be limited to 2″ tires. Eventually, we will see a rigid fork specific to this design as well. (~450 Axle to crown length) but it will also be compatible with many rigid 26″ “suspension corrected” forks.

Other features of the as yet un-named bike will be full rack mounts on the frame and fork, two water bottle cage mounts, and a possible shim/swap out that will allow for 130mm OLD wheels to be fitted, thus making the frame work for both your 29″er mountain bike wheels and your road wheels. (Note, the frame has both canti and disc brake mounts.) Final decisions on spec, colors, and graphics are yet to be determined. (The image here shows Shiggy’s personal preferences, and do not reflect on how the final look will be presented.)

Adventure bikes, or “all-rounders”, are becoming more and more popular. We look forward to the On One offering, and will be keeping a close eye on this project. Stay tuned….

We’d like to thank Shiggy and On One for sharing this information and image with us.
