GX : SRAM debuts entry level 1X11 and Ultra Wide 2X11

I think we all knew it would happen to SRAM 1X…that time when the technology trickles down to the lesser priced component groups and makes the features of the upper level stuff, whatever that might be, more available for the common man. And so we now have GX, a very appealing mix of parts that brings 1X11 with that lovely, wide range 10-42t cassette to a more cost effective point. When SRAM launched 1X, I am not sure if they expected it to be the hit it is…although I am sure they would not admit it if they were surprised…but it has taken over a lot of spec on bikes and for good reason. The caveat is the high step-in cost and the very high cassette cost when it wears out. That machined dome technology they use is light and strong, but pricey. Now GX lessens the sting a good amount albeit at an increased weight.

What is even more interesting, and what should get the internet forums buzzing with cries of “you can walk faster than that!”, is the 2X11 group that uses the 10-42t cassette to get you to unheard of low gearing, Heading over the Colorado Trail on that loaded for bikepacking 29er? There you go. It would be interesting to mix a Fatbike crank with this set-up. Take a look at the comparison graphs here for instance:

As well, we see that GX looks to replace some of the lower priced existing 2X10 groups such as X9 with a GX 2X10. I am sure that we will have more on this at Sea Otter.
