Swiftwick Socks: US Made Foot Wrappers- by Grannygear
Made in America is a pretty hard to find label these days, but that is what you find when you look at the products coming from the factories of Swiftwick Socks in Tennessee, US of A. Pretty cool, eh? But they need to work well too. Wrapping a flag around a product does not make manure into a rose but I have been a loyal Swiftwick sock wearer for several years now and have found nothing but value and a high level of performance from them, specifically the Pursuit line of Merino wool socks.
The number four is my fave MTB sock and it took me about two years of hard use to start to wear the big toes/heels out of two sets of wool #4s. I wear them for three season use in SO Cal and have found them to have a wide range of temperatures that they work well in. If you want a sock that you can take from snuggly sleeping bag, ride all day, get them wet (and still have a chance of staying warm), then not wash them every day and STILL not be the stink-monster, well Merino wool is it.
I recently took a new pair to Idaho for Rebecca’s Private Idaho gravel event and did just that…wore them around the campsite, tucked my piggies into the down quilt with them on, got up, into bike shoes and pedaled from temps in the high 40s to the mid 80s, then came back and walked around in them till I finally found a shower to wash off the trail dust (click here for all that story and more). Switftwick socks rock and who ever knew that sheep were so smart? All that wool…they must be very happy.
Ok, they make all kinds of other socks too, some are synthetic and they come in all kinds of lengths and such what…for runners, golfers, whatever-ers….they are good stuff, made right here in the land of the free. Try a pair of those Merino wool Pursuits. Wear them in all kinds of conditions and on long days in the saddle. Then the next time you see a sheep, be more respectful, OK? They figured all this out years ago.
