I have loved my Rebel SBS and they have lasted 2 years before one of the ratchet springs broke. It still works, but jingles around now. I would have to say that the only time I have been "mouse-trapped" in the shoe was when I mis-fed the strap in the buckle. If you don't get it through the correct hole *inside* the buckle, it can lock you in pretty tight. This only happened when the end of the strap was bent upward.

Anyway, I think these are by far and away the best shoes I have ever owned. (others include sidi, shimano, answer, specialized)

Good review. I am on my second season with the Rebel SBS's and thought I'd chime in. I have never had any of the issues with the SBS ratchet you mention, mine has worked flawless. Possibly a defect in your specific shoe? Or was it both pairs that did this to you?

I'll definitely second the super venting these have! Great on the hot days but I definitely love having booties for those colder fall days.

You should have custom orthotics made it sounds like your arch's are collapsing in shoes without proper arch support. Orthotics would improve your knees and hips as well as stopping the numbness. You'll also get better power transfer. (All of my orthotic rant comes from experience with ski boots, I'm assuming it transfers over to bike shoes)
