@CJW: I don't really "hike" per se', so I can not comment other than to say that the Escapist has a lot of room and sits on my back when loaded down quite nicely. This is from a cycling perspective though, not sure that helps you.

@CJW...Dunno, speaking for myself. Not sure about GT. Maybe you might look at the Osprey line of Manta Packs. I have crossed that over from bikes to hikes on the same vacation and it did very well in that way.

Heya, this may be a silly question, but... How do either of these cycle packs go off the bike, i.e. hiking? It's hard finding small, light packs with enough compartments. Cheers.

I have the 30 as well for commuting, daypack, and hopefully an overnighter or two. Regarding the chest pocket, I find it's perfect for a gel flask, filled with either gel (duh) or extra powder mix.
yes the hip pockets are too small. Should be usuable for a small digicam or phone, but nope.

My camelbak octane has hip-belt pockets that can be difficult to close. I replaced the zipper pulls with metal key ring loops. These make it easy to access the pockets with one hand and close them.
