i have always hated mountain biking.... i had a mountain bike once and it weighed about the same as a hummer, i have been road cycling for some years and ride a Specialized S Works SL4 with Di2, having seen the differences carbon makes to a road bike (not to mention Di2), and now seeking to get off the road a little (less idiots yelling at you to "pay road tax") i started looking at mountain bikes, now that the 29er has evolved it seemed more appealing, i have found the experience of looking for a bike quite exciting, and exhausting at the same time, knowing nothing about mountain bikes at all the choice is incredible!! - Thankfully sites like this with the wealth of knowledge have assisted a great deal, today i have ordered a Specialized Camber Comp Carbon 29er - my first venture into the off road world at 48 years old - cant wait, and i will keep you posted...

I was having trouble deciding between the Epic Carbon Comp and the Camber but ultimately ended up with the Camber Expert Carbon EVO R29 - and its fantastic. I had an Epic which I loved so for years simply thought I would stay with the EPICs. Then I attended a Specialised demo day and to my surprise I preferred the Camber to the S-Works EPIC. Being a bit heavier (92kg) and perhaps getting a bit less precise with my lines (age) I found the Camber much more confident on the descents vs the EPIC which was a bit more highly strung but no doubt probably perfect for the pros. The Camber EVO is still very efficient and very fast up and down, and as Kosmo wrote too, I too have not yet banged my pedals on rock which I did with the EPIC.

@GG : I placed an order for the rumblefish pro! I guess I will post first impressions in a couple weeks. In the end what made me go for the Fisher vs the Stumpy was the fact that I already have a stumpy 26er and its always nice to have something different.

Also the fact that Fisher has been into 29ers for such a long time makes me feel more comfortable that his 29ers are more than proved

Hi Ricardo

The Camber Comp with the M5 frame would be my first option, but it is not available in Spain. I've seen it in some UK webpages, with a mix of XT-X7-SLX, but in Spain the lack of this model creates a huge gap in the Camber range: from a 1900€ M4 version you go to the Comp Carbon at 3200€. The M5 Comp sould seat more or less in between.

This may be due to the "general shortage" of 29er products. Here in Spain some brands are asking for a 6 months lead time, and some LBS ask you to wait for 2013 products since there is no enough supply of 2012 units. I've said enough, and may be "any" fit better.
Thanks
Saludos

@GG

Thanks a lot, you were actually very helpful. I test rode a stumpy fsr on our trails (which is where I fell in love with the 29er), and then I test rode a Camber 29 on the pavement on the store, and as you mentioned it felt smaller, i.e. closer to the ground, which I actually like.

I guess I really have to go to the store and try all three at once and let the heart pick the one... With the Fisher, my first mountain bike was a fisher and I´m one of those "strange" guys that actually loves the feel of Genesis.

For my downhill skills, I know either of the three will be more than enough, but I my absolute must is that it has to be a good climber.

@Jose I don´t know if the Camber Comp 29er is available in Spain, but here in Mexico this version comes with the M5 frame, the tapered HT and the 142... it basically has the same components and specs as a stumpy comp, except for the suspension travel and of course the frame geometry. that´s the model I´m contemplating
