Sounds like an Apple Macintosh Tire to me, I would just use one in the front, and just lower the rear tire (any brand) pressure to about 32 or 33 for the best traction going up or down or in circles or S curves. Sounds like a good use of tires period.

Just wanted to add some info here. Specialized claims on their website that this tire weighs 670g, a lot more than the prototype tested here. However, I just picked one up and it weighed in at 630g, sort of right between the prototype and the claimed weight.

@ Samy -- I ride in SoCal and for most of the year, I'm good with a Renegade on the back and a Fastrack on the front for my HT 29er. If climbing in a lot of loose stuff, try a fastrack on the back too. I'm riding Fastrack front and rear on my Stumpy FSR.

@Kosmo: To be honest, I haven't gotten to the point where they will break away, or haven't hit upon the right conditions yet. In dry soils and rocky grounds, they really stick well. I will continue to ride them, as they are on the Velocity wheel set under review, and I hope to do a long term update after I have tried them in more varied terrain. My instincts tell me they will give way all of a sudden, but we'll see.
