Twenty Nine Inches will be sending our resident West-coaster, Grannygear, to spy out all the goodness at Sea Otter this year. Here are a few of the things we have on our radar that we will be covering for this first big mountain bike shindig of 2010.
A Yeti 29″er?: That’s what we have been tipped off to. It is supposed to be shown at Sea Otter in a few days. If it shows, we’ll get some pics and any info we can gather on what would be a shocker for the brand that stated they “would never make a 29″er”.
Salsa Cycles New Steel El Mariachi: We have been looking forward to seeing what the new El Mariachi in steel would be all about for some time now. This staple of Salsa’s 29″er line up will make its public debut on Thursday at Sea Otter. However; we got a sneak peek and a ride in the St. Paul, Minnesota area before it made its trip out West. Look for our exclusive First Ride report with pics coming up on Thursday!
Shimano XT, SLX Reveal: Also at Sea Otter, you can expect to see a lot of coverage on what Shimano is up to with the new versions of XT and SLX groups. We have already seen the new goods and some of what is coming has implications for the 29″er crowd. Look for our report to be posted in our Sea Otter coverage coming up.
Tires, Wheels, And More! There will be more tire, wheel, and fork news coming out of Sea Otter as well. More complete 29″ers, and maybe some surprises which we will be bringing to you from the digital transmissions of our beloved Grannygear. Look for our Sea Otter coverage starting Thursday and continuing straight on into next week!

Nice to hear that salsa is still on top of steel technology. love that new stuff.
+1 Salsa has some cool bikes.
I like their new touring bike too, the Vaya I think it’s called.
Looking forward to seeing all the new stuff, post lots of pictures.
Giant is rumored to unveil an Anthem X 29er!
@dman, you definitely want to check the Vaya out… I’ve got about a thousand miles on mine now and it’s an awesome bike for any road-based adventure, whether paved or gravel. I’m running 700x40c Schwalbe Marathon Extreme tires on it and they seem to be a perfect match for the frameset’s capabilities.
The new El Mariachi steel is gonna’ be a great bike… I can’t wait to see it in-person.
I can smell a 12-36 XT cassette… As a mostly 1×9 rider though, that is of little (although some) added value to me. 11-38, that’s be something….
Oh, you can park the Yeti 29″er next to the Specialized offerings.
SRAM X-9 and X-O 2×10 will be revealed.
Looking forward to those! I like the idea of an (affordable) 11-36 cassette with a 39-26 crankset on my 29er.
How about a (wishful) Shimano 20-30-40T crank set for our big wheels?
get a ride on the 11 speed shimano alfine ,,
Hi i have built up a stylo crank with 20=30I38. some miner mods are needed but hadno problems in last 2 years. also you can do 5 bolt crank also.
oops typing sucks chainrings are 20 30 38.
1. Would like to know if Fox is bringing out a 140mm (15mm maxle) version of their 29er fork. Have heard that a 140mm fork will be part of their 2011 product range…is that right? And, if so…when will it ship?
Those of you going to Sea Otter need to look on the front of the WFO9 at the Niner Booth.
Ok listen up. I don’t care about minor revealtions and cannot get what you all get excited about? What is the heck interesting in another HT or steel rigid? Yeti? Who cares? Yeti 575- oh yeah and Trance X 29er plus Tallboy LT or Trek Fuel Ex in Carbon with 120mm travel with tapered Fox 120mm terralogic 20 or 15mm qr axle and carbon steerer – now we’re talking!!
All other tidbits are dull boring.
Show me XTR 20-30-42/40 and 12-38/39 cassette, light 12mm maxles upto 50 grams for 29er rear ends, show me light and wide 36h rims show me 36h DT swiss hubs below 440 to accompany those 29er requirements. Show me more 150x12mm 29er rear end on 120mm rigs to get that back ass end stiffer a bit, would ya? No? Let me stay dormant further and don’t bother me
Who would have imagined…..a yeti 29`er….. I was one of their customers they lost to the 29`ers
I`d be interesting… They make good bikes….
