Twenty Nine Inches has just received a few sets of Specialized’s newest 29″er tire, the Purgatory. We have S-Works, Control, and even a 2.4″er to check out. Specialized says this about the Purgatory. (from their website):
WORLD-CLASS ALL MOUNTAIN PERFORMANCE – INTERMEDIATE/LOAMY CONDITIONS
Big jobs require big equipment. The Purgatory has a big-volume casing and monster traction, with biting side and center knobs for softer conditions.

Look for an Out Of The Box post to follow soon…….

Just got a 2.4. Big and chunky. Lean it over with no worries.800 grams.
I just mounted these up last week. Easiest tubeless setup I have encountered to date! The knobs are hug & the tire weighs ~800gms. No trail time yet, as I am waiting on snow to melt…but looks VERY promising!
hug=huge
just mounted a 2.2 control version on the back of my rig set up tubeless { in just seconds }. my first ride out i cleaned a 14% grade, greasy, peanut butter, slimy mud bog of a climb, littered with loose baby heads, at night in the rain. this section of trail i usually reserve for climbing only in the dry but i wanted to put this tire to the test. and it passed in a big way.
will put a 2.4 on the front next week

Yeah, so far they have been a fine mud tire. Yes, I actually have mud to ride in…lots of it! The 2.4s are on the way to Guitar Ted and I have two sets of 2.2s on two bikes right now. So far it has been a very good tire. We shall see what happens when things dry out but that may be a while.
