OS Bikes To Expand Size Range

January 12th, 2010 by Guitar Ted

OS Bikes, the company started by veteran mountain biker and one of WTB’s founding members, Mark Slate, has announced that there will be an expansion of sizes in the one and only model the company has called the Blackbuck. Originally only offered in one size, which approximated most companies size large/20 inch, OS Bikes will soon have Blackbucks in three sizes, one on either side of the original. So, a medium and and XL size, it is assumed.

New Blacbucks will feature longer forks than the pictured original.

In other changes the rigid fork originally offered on the Blackbuck will be replaced by a rigid fork featuring a slightly longer axle to crown and redesigned drop outs. The axle to crown measurement will go to 454mm, up from the previous forks 435mm measurement. This will slack out the head angle from approximately 74 degrees to 73 degrees. The same 51mm off set will be retained. Also, the drop out will change to what Mark Slate describes as a “hooded drop out”, much like the rear drop out on the Blackbuck frame.

The new Blackbuck frames will also feature the new metal head badges, which may possibly be made available to previous Blackbuck owners. Mark Slate also tells us that he has t-shirts available in three sizes for sale as well. Future projects for OS Bikes include a new blog, and there has also been a rumor of a “multi-terrain” frame and fork in the works. @jon: Typically if the OS site is offline it means it is being updated, which may take awhile. Give it a bit of time. The owner is also one of the chiefs of WTB and admits that being busy on the WTB side and not being a tech/web guy sometimes causes what we are (not) seeing going on with the website at times.

I am hoping to pick up one of the BlackBucks, but am a little leary about the sizing. I am wondering how tall you are and how the fit was for you, also if you have any suggestion for me as I am 6′2″ with a 34.5″ inseam…………please tell me I am in the original size range.

    Thanks for the help

@VeloRyan: I think you will be alright. I am 6′1″ with a 34″ cycling inseam, shorter torso/longer legs. I have to run a shorter stem, (80-90mm) with a 10-17 degree bar, but otherwise it fits fantastically well.

Mark Slate, the designer and owner of OS Bikes, is about your exact size, by the way. ;)
