@sean: It isn't even a debate. Rumblefish. It has such a better rear end than the previous generation HiFi that it isn't even comparable.

Help me out on this one, I have the option to purchase a 2010 rumblefish 1 demo for $1,900
or a 2008 hi fi pro with american classic rims for $1500. can't make a decision on them. any thought out there.

I bought the 2009 HiFi Plus 29er and its so flexy in the rear that I have already snapped both chain stays and buckled the rear wheel and sucked the rear derailer into the spokes. Yes I weigh 230lbs however I was lucky enough to ride the 2010 Full Carbon 29er---SUPER FLY 100 while my HiFI was in the shop!!! Wow what a huge difference. My weight was not a problem at all. The changes that GF made on the 2010 bikes made a huge difference to the ride of the bike. I wish I had ridden a 2010 HiFi 29er in order for me to make a better comparison but I was not complaining about getting the SUPER FLY 100. I think the biggest improvements were decreasing the wheelbase and removing that pivot link on the rear end.

@MTB4LIFE: I will agree with you that physics limit what we should expect as mountain bikers, and with bigger folks, things get harder in this regard. However; it isn't impossible to have a bicycle perform acceptably for a person that weighs what I do. (240lbs). I know, I've ridden several bicycles that work just fine in the area of flex.

In fact, some bicycles are too good in that regard. Some amount of flex is actually a good thing, really. It just needs to be designed in very carefully.

So, in a general sense, I can agree with you, but specifically for "Clydesdale Class" riders, I will have to respectfully disagree that flex in the wrong places is a forgone conclusion.
