I just finished building my Bg Mama (Purchased Frame. My choice of parts). Built up to 26.5lbs. I was having chain suck issues using a RaceFace crank and rings. I swapped in my 2009 XTR crank & BB and have had no suck issues as of yet. A friend of mine who bought a complete bike contacted Salsa with the chain suck problem and they sent him a set of Salsa Chainrings (Warranty) and it has thus cured the problem. Also I jimmied my own anti-chainsuck device which was easy and works great.
I have about 150 miles on my Mama now and it is incredible. I am finding that more and more I have to leave the propedal on unless its nice swoopy singletrack. But I weigh 225 with gear. I called PUSH and they have a fix for me. But I am going to wait until winter comes. I am loving this bike too much. I am going to get a 2011 F29 Talas and see how she rides in the 120 mode. the 100mm has been perfect but here in New England sometimes a little extra travel up front in the steep rocks would be welcomed. I also added a joplin post for these occurences. But over-all this feels like one of those bikes that I will never part with. It does everything great. I would put it in the same category as my 1998 Santa Cruz Heckler. A perfect bike for everything.

I recently purchased a big mama and in the first 20 minutes of riding the thing chainsucked and trashed the frame by getting looped over a chainstay and cutiing into the tube. I'm not sure if its something with the raceface cranks that comes on the XT build, but I wouldn't rule out a design flaw. It was a perfectly clean brand new lubed chain and cranks. It was easily reproducible, and salsa doesn't replace frames because they don't make em anymore. $2600 for a bike with a chunk missing from the chainstay. sucks.

@ T Shephard

Yes, it is optimised for 44-46 ofset and 100mm travel. But do not let that stop you. I'm running a 120mm Reba Team and loving it. ;)

Got it... drivetrain symptom to pay more attention to. I'm new to FS ownership, 5 years on a Karate Monkey with minimal BB framework to gnash into, and fixed stays.

Another question, Is the Big Mama design optimised for newer offset forks? I'm running an older Reba.

Thanks Guitar Ted, I think mine is just poor luck...All the components are only 2 weeks old and have been freshly tuned...it is running perfectly. I think the combination of a bump/drop off at the wrong time with the gear change (ie. my fault!)...Bugger.
