@Alex: The Race Kings are indeed a great choice for multiple surface riding. I also like their off road performance very much. That said, a Nanoraptor is a very similar tire that can do very similar things. Performace is on par with a Race king. The tipping point may be if you desire tubeless set ups, which the Continental is a bit more adept at.

I think you would do well with either a Nanoraptor or Race King.

Hi Guitar Ted,

I sometimes use my Salsa Selma on pavement rather than my roadbike. If my typical ride would be 70% paved roads, 20% gravel/hard packed soil and 10% small and rocky terrain, would the Race Kings be a great tire choice for me?

I'm happy with the Kenda Nevegals I'm currently using but would like to try another tire. My current choices are Schwalbe Nobby Nics, WTB Nano 29er and the fore-mentioned Continental Race Kings.

Between the three tires, what would be the best choice for the specific ride I described?

Thanks Guitar ted and more power to you!

Carl: The Racing Ralph is similar in it's narrower version. Still, that is a bigger tire than the Race King. The RR has thinner sidewall, and due to this, it may not be as durable, and it certainly takes more effort to get it to convert to tubeless than does the Race King. I do not feel that the Racing Ralph has as great a grip as the Race King does either. YMMV

Llama: Wow, that is a great question. I recently got to try Nanoraptors tubeless on Flow rims. You know what? Those things hook up, and they are cushy. Of course, everyone is well aware that Nanoraptors are fast tires too.

I guess from a "multi-terrain" aspect, the Nano is hard to beat. I think the Nano holds the edge on pavement and it is a fantastic gravel tire. I have not run the Race King on gravel roads, so I can not comment on that yet.

I guess I would be torn between the two, but even though Nanoraptors are not recommended to be run tubeless, I would give that tire the nod in your situation.
