paragonjeff: I highly recommend using Bontrager valve stems. If you can't source those the Mavic ones do a good job too.

paragon jeff: While I haven't tried to do what you are doing, I have heard that the tape has to be run up right to the bead seats which may require two rounds, (but again, I have not tried this) If and when I get around to doing up a set for myself, it won't be with Stan's tape, but with a "ghetto" system that I was turned on to by a friend that I feel gives a better chance for success than Stan's yellow tape does.

I agree that the Gordo rims make riding ridiculously fun. :)

hey Ted, hope all is well with you. Ok, After trying a few different tires on the Gordos i have decided to go with the Conti MK 2.2 out front and a Barro race 2.0 in back. The Gordos make these tires really wide and flat :-). I used the Stans 25mm yellow tape as my rim strip and i would like to try a tubless system. what do you think about a stans valve stem and yellow tape + stans sealent or should i go with a rim strip with a valve stem attached?

Also, these rims are so much fun to ride, best thing i have done to the bike so far!

thanks

paragonjeff: My own. Actually, something I picked up from a friend, but a "ghetto" system, none the less. One round of strapping tape, one round of 3M mounting tape, Two rounds of black electrical tape, in that order. Home brew sealant made from mold builder and windshield washer solvent.

Works a trick. ;)

But of course................not on Salsa rims. Just sayin'! :)

Greg: The Gordo made my Racing Ralph "flatter" in the center of the tread. I felt that it laid more of the knobs directly on the terrain which when mated to around 25 psi in the front was a great set up for hard pack terrain. To be honest, it transforms a WW LT into a much better tire traction wise, but I never had my WW LT on the front with the Gordo.

I would try it both ways. Maybe one will shine a bit better for you. I can say that the carcass of a WTB tire is much stiffer than the Schwalbes. If you corner aggressively and carry a lot of speed, the WTB may end up feeling much better for you. I know that SoCal has a bunch of high speed sweepers, and the Ralph might wilt a bit in those situations.

"maximum traction from their tires with lateral stiffness"

Yes these are nice priorities.

Ted, did the RR 2.4's get better on the front on this rim? I had them on my Flow (tubeless) before and I wasn't all that impressed with the cornering. They had great float over sand but cornering in SoCal felt unsure. I ran them at 25psi. Will going lower psi with tubes on the Gordo make a difference? Or should I consider the WWLT?

(And thanks for the spoke advice, going with the DT Swiss Comps 14/15/14's with alloy nips.)
