@Scott: Continental is going to update the Mountain King with better supported outer knobs, but I was not told that Black Chili compound would be used. So far that is reserved for the 26"er line.

It is only a matter of time though, before the compound makes its debut on 29 inch sized Conti tires. The European market is just starting to come around to big wheels and once the demand there for racing tires in 29"er sizes gets big enough, we'll see it happen.

Well, these tires are tough to set up tubeless, due to their porous sidewalls, but the weight and volume are incredible on the trail. Racing Ralph 2.4 inchers. If you don't have any sidewall ripping rocks, then these might be worth the effort. They corner great up front. I used one on the front end of a single speed with a rigid fork, (most of the time) and it was a fantastic front tire, although I ran mine tubed. If you keep in the dry, the Racing Ralph will perform very well.

Another great tire I have liked a lot is the Captain Control from Specialized in the 2.2 inch size. Lots of grip and comes in the "2Blis" variety which is a snap to set up tubeless. It has a great, round casing, and works well as an all rounder. These tires, like the MK 2.4's will "grow" a bit if you go tubeless with them, so give that a try, I think you'd end up liking them.
