I forgot to mention, I run tubes with these and run 20 psi front and 22 rear (2.0 tire). I have yet (knocking on wood) to pinch flat. I weigh 180ish pounds and ride E TN and western NC singletrack primarily.

I have been running the 2.2 capt with a 2.0 capt on my Air 9 for about 3-4 rides. I really like the setup. I ran the fast tracks for a year and liked them, but these inspire more confindence. I recently did a 12 hour race solo in wet and muddy conditions. I had two bikes, SS with Captains and geared bike with fast tracks. There was huge deiiference, with the fast tracks I was slipping and sliding on every loose root and rock, but not so with the captains. I think they work especially well as a front tire.

ATBScott: Well, I have been running these same tires that Grannygear has been riding, only out here in the Mid-West. He'll most likely chime in here with his take on the Eskar, but here's mine:

I think it is another tire that likes to be leaned hard into a turn. I will say that it grips in off camber terrain here really well, has decent cornering traits, (If you can learn to just snap it over) and is pretty cushy. I am running the pair I have here on Salsa Gordo rims that are 35mm wide, so my results are a bit different maybe due to that rim being able to put the tread face down more than other rims can. I'll have more to say on the Eskars, Captain Controls, and fast trak LK's soon.

Guitar Ted - I have been running the Captain 2.2 for about a month now on the rear of my SS. While I do not have too much problem with it hanging onto off-camber stuff and climbing, I do notice it drifting a bit cornering at speed on hard-pack - especially sweeper-type corners. Had a fun session of that at Annadel State Park here in NorCal yesterday coming down Cobblestone. I think that it is just due to the sizeable strip of sparsely-knobbed transition area. I can deal with that on the rear - but the front, no way. For our terrain here I find that the Captain didn't inspire much confidence for me. Been wondering about the Eskar though - how do you like it up front (assuming you have tried it)? Eskar looks like it might be a bit slower in the rear, but I like the appearance of the tread pattern!

I've been running the Control for about a year up front (it was the only casing available). I wanted something that was like a Kenda Nevegal but without the weight. To me, it's exactly as what you've found The Captain to be. Good grip, good rolling resistance and predictable.

I have been running a SB8 on the rear, but I think I want more grip instead of saving grams. Will be interesting to hear/read what you make of the Eskar/Captain combo.
