Sea Otter Classic: Day One Report
April 17th, 2008 by Guitar Ted
Pivot Cycles were showing production samples of their upcoming 429 full suspension 29″er featuring the DW Link type linkage driving just over 80mm of travel. Here’s the silver anodized version.

And here’s the red anodized version. The bikes should be available sometime in June and will be offered in frame only, frame with a kit, or as a complete rig. The frame will be offered in three sizes, (small, medium, and large) and in the two colors shown here, both anodized.
Look for a more detailed report on the 429 in a future update.

29″er specific cranks anyone? How about this special spider done for Jeremy Horgan-Kobelski and a couple of other Fisher/Subaru Team members bikes that allows a super low “Q” factor and a 28T/38T combination to be used on the racing teams 29″er Superflys.

Here’s a view from the other side.

And here is one mounted up to a race bike. Check out the chainring clearance on that chainstay! Low “Q” factor indeed!

Here’s Hutchinson’s newest tubeless ready 29″er tire, the “Toro”. It seems to be of a decent width, not a really wide tire, but the volume looked really good. Again, it is “tubeless ready” and can be used with Hutchinson’s excellent Fast Air sealant.

Here’s a look at the sidewall. Interestingly this tire receives a sidewall treatment that is supposed to give the casing some protection from scuffs and trail obstacles. Said to be available in the U.S. from June onwards. Look for an upcoming test on Twenty Nine Inches
Stay Tuned for more tomorrow.

Great report, keep it coming. I so wish I was down there.
Ted,
Just a correction for you. The Mach 429 is, in fact, a 100 mm travel bike.

I want one of those fancy Ninja throwing stars.
Adam@Pivot: I’ll get that corrected in the update, Thanks!
