Niner Bikes Announcements
December 4th, 2007 by Guitar Ted
Niner Bikes has announced that its long awaited J.E.T. 9 frame is going to be available this coming February. The J.E.T. 9 is a new full suspension cross country oriented design that is based on Niner’s own C.V.A. suspension platform. This is the same basic configuration used by the R.I.P. 9 full suspension trail bike but it is refined for the J.E.T. 9’s design purposes. Niner puts it this way:
“While we could have just put shorter rockers on the R.I.P. 9 and called it a day, that is not what we are about.
The Jet 9 has different rockers, tubing, shock, pivots, dropouts, and different butting profiles based on the design: a light, fully active XC bike with 3.1″ of travel. We spent a whole year designing and testing a frame that only has 1.4″ less travel. Trust me it makes a difference in the final product as you are cruising your favorite trail with a big fat smile on your face. That smile is why we do what we do.”
There has been a lot of changes recently in suspension fork geometry and Niner has stated that the new J.E.T. 9 ” will work with all current forks both 80mm and 100mm lengths”. Niner suggests tuning your ride for different riding styles and courses by using the variety of 100mm and 80mm forks and offsets available now. Niner offers two forks in it’s packages which includes the Manitou Minute 29″er and a special Reba available only from Niner that features the U-Turn travel adjuster that can adjust travel from 80mm to 100mm.

Yeppers, that’s a mighty fine bi-cycle you got there. I tell you what.
Sweet looking bike for sure, but considering the latest batch of 29er forks out or about to come out, I’m just not feeling the steep head angle.
The fact that there’s a new and by many loved new approach to building 29″ bikes doesn’t make the “old” any worse. But I do feel that Niner should follow next model year. We’re still at the start of Fisher’s first 29″ G2 year, next year we’ll see who’s really sitting out the evolution, and who’s going for it.
It’s 72 with a 80mm Fork Right? Couldn’t you just run 100mm Fox Or Manitou, resulting in slackening the head angle a degree to offset the increased fork rake? It would also raise the BB a bit which would be good on the east coast techy trails…..
I’m with NHNiner - the geometry allows for a racey bike with an 80mm fork in front and more of a small travel trail bike feel wtih this frame through the use of a 100mm fork. Good stuff in my book.
