Congratulations to Jesse La Londe who just won the overall at the Chequamegon Fat Tire 40 in north eastern Wisconsin today. He did it on a Gary Fisher 29″er single speed running a 36 X 17 gear. Here is the top ten from today’s event:

    36×17! What a beast.

The dude also won the National 24 hour race on a 4 man team using the same gearing

G-Ted, you need to do an interview with this Mr. La Londe.

    Peace,

…..and it will take a a bigger gear to beat that.

Wow. Awesome. That is Monster gearing.

If you (or someone) interviews him, find out if he rode Fire Tower Hill.

    Actually, here’s his blog:

  7. 7 mark

cool blog. I was only 1 1/2 hours behind him, but then I outweigh him by 80 lbs. . . haha — so much for a trackie trying the cheq fat tire –I don’t feel so bad having to walk the fire tower myself - but then jesse and marko were on SS.

  8. 8 mark

by the way, on the rollout - 30 mph on his 29″ SS is around 142-145 RPMs in the gear he chose. not bad for 180 mm cranks. . .get that guy on the track. . .

Those are serious RPMs… that’s probably why he described that 30-mph section as “spin, spin, coast, coast” (or something like that). On 180mm cranks… impressive.

PS — I’m in the same weight boat, but I think I’ll attempt the 40 next year on, you guessed it, a SS 29er. (but with more “mortal” gearing)

  10. 10 WV kid

cant use that gear in West Virgina
