Hutchinson Python Tubeless Ready 29″er Tires: Out Of The Box
August 2nd, 2007 by Guitar TedWe have recieved two of the 29″er versions of Hutchinson’s new Python tubeless ready tires on test/review here which we will be mounting tubeless to the Mavic Crossmax 29″er wheelset we have on test. Designed to be compatible with Mavic’s 29″er effort, the Hutchinson is the only tire currently available that is recommended by Mavic to use with the Crossmax 29″ers.
Here are some points to ponder concerning these tires. They are not a “true” UST type tire, but rather a “tubeless ready” tire. Hutchinson claims that the “technology provides the same technological advantages as our standard tubeless tires, but shaves more weight by removing the air tight skim which creates a lighter casing”. Hutchinson claims a 160 gram savings over what a true UST casing would have been. Of course, not having the airtight layer means you need to use a sealant, and Hutchinson has it’s own latex based sealant dubbed “Fast Air”.
The tires weight with sealant is said to save up to 20% over a tubed set up in weight. The casing is a 127 tpi type with a spec weight of plus or minus 645 grams. (My samples weighed in at 660 and 670 grams respectively) The rubber is of a synthetic compound that is said to be longer lasting and give better performance. MSRP is $44.95 each and they are available now. Look for a first ride impression soon.

I want to ride those babies GT. I may have to go on a ride with you, hit you in the head, and takem.
Looking forward to a ride report. I’ve got a 26″ version of the new generation tubeless coming for my 5″ full squish bike.
