the 08 XXIX-G looks much better than the 07. I personally did not like the graphics on the 07’s.

GT any Idea how long till the LBS (Europa) has then in the shop?

The Red was much cooler than these colors BUT…More choices is great!

I wonder if they’ll make a 21 inch SS model this year; Geo chart isn’t up yet.

  4. 4 Cloxxki

An adult size 29″ bike would be welcomed :)

arkadi: There is an XL XXIX this year.

Oolong: Probably not until late winter/early spring. Hint: ’07’s are on special! :)

BunE: Yeah, I really liked that red, but every year they have to change it, so….

Cloxxki: Even a XL Raleigh might be too small for you! The biggest problem would be the seat post for those long limbs of yours. ;)

Thank God I got my ‘07 xxix! Higher price, Ugly Ass colors for ‘08!

Anyone know if they got rid of that dumb ass 2 speed hub? or did some one correct Raleigh on the “can be geared” BS
had a Hell of a time converting to a 1×7 drive

Also, What is up with this 400mm seat post???

I am 5-5 with a 30 inch inseam, I ride the medium 16.5, and when I take it off road (I commute) I bottom-out the seat post!

Desert9er: Please explain your “2 speed hub” comment. I don’t follow you on that one. As far as converting it to a “One by” set up, the replaceable drop out module from a XXIX+G should bolt right on. Then it’s a simple matter of running some full housing and using some zip ties.

Finally, on the seat post, feel welcomed to make yours a 350mm length. A carefully wielded hacksaw will do the trick. However; I think you’d agree it’s a bit more difficult to make your 350mm post a 400mm post. ;) That was a big problem for riders with longer legs than yours. A 400mm post just makes a lot more sense, as you can cut it down if you don’t need the length, but it’s a nice thing for those that do. :)

I’m sorry for my rudeness yesterday,

About the rear hub, Bolting on the cassette, hanger and so on is what I thought it was going to be…. Wrong

I don’t know if mine was the only one but I had 2 mechanic of 20+ yrs look at the hub and tell me I MIGHT fit a 3 speed on it, so I looked and sure enough the free-body (?? where the cassette fits) was, at Max half the hieght/length of a 9 speed LX hub and wouldn’t fit a 7 speed hub (tried it myself) so I ended up having the stock speedDisc wheel relaced with a LX center-lock hub.

oh and about the seatpost, I would think, if a person runs out of 350 worth of post they need a bigger bike (longer leg? bikes are measure (most) With the leg length), if the company doesn’t make a big enough bike, go with another company, Raleighs lose!

I geared up to a 1×7 with no problem. (xtra rear wheel is always in the house…) Except that I have found I like single speeds the best. I have a Marzocchi on the Front and I tell you what, it is a freakin’ B-L-AST!

For bike companies to do away with new colors for new years is just plain silly. Long live the dirty red Mark 1.

You know, for being a second tier player, Raleigh is getting pretty Balsey. Heck their Road Bikes are getting some play and I wonder if they will go FS again? My old Phase is now a 69er and it is a ball too.

I like the blue! I might paint mine White, artic white.

Hey, how do you properly adjust the BB when you get chain slack? I seem to be doing something wrong?

I have ridden my XXIX (stock) 5-6 times per week for 1-2 hours per ride and have done nothing – NOTHING – more than lube the chain and spray it down after a ride, talk about low maintenance.

I rode with some frsusp 29′rs at Oleta last weekend, they were fast/smooth and I had a hard time keeping up but managed to stay with them – uness they were taking it easy on me

Adjusting EBB, loosen the 2 hex screws on the bottom, I found it easiesy to use a long hex key to rotate it using the holes on the side, position it where you want it, and tighten screws on the bottom.

    Hope that helps

what about alignment of chain, since the bb moves in that sleeve from left to rght

stand @ crank and “bird eye’ chain alignment,
    OR
    look from cassette forward,

once you get that set, tighten the screws on the bottom. Done

Does anyone know what the price on the 2008 XXIX singlespeed is? It looks like they priced it a lot higher than the 2007 version (which I already have).

I like the way they changed certain components on the 2008 version and am quite tempted to get one even though I have the 2007.

The Only difference is the tires! expect a $300 increase. I got my ‘07 for $800 and Raleigh is posting the ‘08 for $1100+

    Hey there GCG199 & Desert9r,

The pricing on the 2008 XXIX (single speed) is the same as last year – it will run you about $750-$800. We just had an error on the website that bumped the price up.

    GCG199
Desert9r is right, the only difference is the tires, graphics package, and we added an XL size.

    Enjoy!

Hey CSH Raleigh, thank you for the info. I stopped by my LBS today on the way home from work and they gave Raleigh a call. I figured that it was a mistake on the price on the website.
