More Big Wheeled Ballyhoo Updates
May 11th, 2007 by Tim GrahlYesterday I had a great conversation with Rich Gosen of Oneota River Cycles in Decorah, Iowa. Just so you know, this event wouldn’t be happening without his and Jeff O’Gara’s help. If you make it to the Ballyhoo, make sure you track these guys down and give them a word of thanks.
Anyway, Rich let me know about some great developments that have come about lately…
First off, we have secured a perfect place for the campsite and demo area. It’s on a spot of government land that needs city council approval for use and now we have it. It’s less than 200 yards from the trail head and just four or five blocks from downtown Decorah. Everything is now within a short bike ride.
Currently we only have primitive camping available, but things are in the works to have shower facilities made available as well. It’s looking good but not confirmed as of yet.
Also, there will be guided rides by members of the local mountain bike club so you’ll get to see the best parts of their 20+ miles of singletrack. Four rides on Saturday and three rides on Sunday. There will be both novice and advanced groups.
The party Saturday night will be hosted at the local bar and grill, T-Bocks. We’ll have the second floor to ourselves and some local bands have stepped up to provide free live music.
So things are shaping up nicely and it’s gonna be a lot of fun. Once again, to see the specifics, check out the main Big Wheeled Ballyhoo pages and if you’re planning on coming, please let us know.
Last thing, we are still looking for sponsors that want to be a part of this event. We are offering a sponsorship package for a pretty good deal to offset the costs of putting on the event. If you know someone that would be interested, please pass along my name (Tim Grahl) and email address (diggers@twentynineinches.com).

Man, I wish that wasnt so far away, I would definitly be there.
I certainly hope everything goes smoothly.
Deke (aka Rich Gossen) is a great resource for cycing as a whole. Glad you had a chance to talk with him. He is the reason 99% of those trails exist or are open to mountain bikes. I’ve worked with shops across the country and his is top notch. Check it out and make sure you bring him a 6 of good beer.
Sevo: Hey man, I will make sure Deke gets taken care of!
I know you are 100% correct about what you say about him and his shop. I’ve been working with Deke of and on for the past three years in regards to Trans Iowa, so I can concur with you.
But as Tim says, lets not forget the other fine folks of Decorah, Iowa either. Jeff O’Gara and many others have fallen head over heals for this Big Wheeled Ballyhoo and deserve a lot of credit for how far it’s gotten off the ground already.
See you in North East Iowa in June!
