RST to release new 29 inch fork

April 2nd, 2007 by Tim Grahl

RST will be releasing a new line of forks and a 29er will be a part of that. Here’s the info I was sent:

New for 2007, the M-29 fork, for cross-country bikes with 29″ wheels. Based on the key features of the new Titan all-mountain fork and the F1RST cross-country fork, the M-29 is the answer to your 29″ wheeled trail riding machine. The fork is air-sprung with hydraulic rebound and compression (with lock-out). The M-29 will be available at the end of April.

Specs:
Weight: 4 lbs 9 oz
Travel: 80mm or 100mm
Stanchion thickness: 32mm
Color options: Black or White

Does anyone know the price ???

Probably cheap. It would be a nice upgrade for an inexpensive SS like a Monocog.

The M-29 is going to retail for $350, or $390 with remote (handlebar) lock-out.

This new line of RST forks isn’t going to be the typical OEM stuff that you’re familiar with. The new forks in the high-end line have all been in development for a while and are definitely going to be a big step up from what you’ve seen in the past.

    Any word on the offset?

Just noticed the canti studs. Linear pull brake lovers rejoice! :)

    Yeah, canti studs!

I gave a buddy my old RST Delta TL. A really nice 2kg xc fork that seems to offer more travel than it’s actual 85mm or so. Weird noise at fast hits, but that don’t matter.

These should be a welcome replacement for the affordable Marzocchi’s that seem to have fallen off the market since Fisher could find better OEM deals, and those disappointing carbon-heavy Winwoods.

The offset on the M-29 is 43mm…

    I third the canti studs!

Being on a fairly tight budget, I didn’t want to have to change hubs and buy discs, all because I wanted a suspension fork. Although they maybe on the heavy side, they’ll be top of the shopping list.

I just hope that the quality is right and spares will be easy to source…

Sourcing shouldn’t be a problem, there is an entire office in Portland, Oregon dedicated to sales and service of the new high-end line. Everything should be up and operational by the end of the month.

Hooray on the offset! :) Good thing to have in the quiver to quicken up slightly slack handling 29″ers. I was hoping RST would be onboard with that. Thanks for all the helpful posts aaron!
