MONKEYS LIKE COFFEE

March 17th, 2007 by Tim Grahl

Just got this 20″ Monkey. Best Mtn Bike I have ever ridden. Only 29 lbs for a Large, front suspension, steel frame with XT, 2×9, and basic low end Ryhnolite Wheels with LX hubs. This thing climbs incredibly and just floats over bumps and rocks on the downhill. Fork is 2004 Marathon SL. Fantastic fork!

YES, I agree that the Marzocchi is a great fork, I had used Reba and Manitou too but MARZOCCHI is better than every others.
About the SURLY frame, I’ve one, me too, and yes is a great steel frame, very well built but not exactly the right one for a suspended fork, I’ve measured a 68 degree head angle with Reba 80 mm !!! Whit this setup on step hill the front wheel go everywhere, so I switch to the rigid fork.
But maybe for you that are taller than my 18″ frame things are better.

    Anyway 29er IS BETTER !

Did you have to use a higher race with your fork? Like a Cane Creek S3+5 or Ventana 7mm lower race? Anytime you have to use a higher race to make the fork clear the frame, you will create a more relaxed head angle. With the Marzocchi, you don’t need a higher headset race, because the top dials on the fork are low enough to clear the frame (with about 1mm of filing)

Does anyone know if a Carbon on-one fork would work with this bike?
