Big Wheeled Ballyhoo Update

March 15th, 2007 by Tim Grahl

It’s been awhile since we’ve said anything about the Big Wheeled Ballyhoo coming up in June, but now we are starting to nail down some more stuff that’s gonna be happening. Mind you, we are still in the planning phase, but here’s some cool stuff that gonna happen…

LOTS of demo bikes. So far Gary Fisher, Raleigh, Salsa, Surly, Niner, Slingshot and Titus will have their demos there to try out. More of them to come.

Guided rides, poker runs, etc will be happening all weekend thanks to the local bike shops and mountain bike clubs.

Some sort of party and round table and/or Q&A will be happening Saturday night at the local watering hole, T-Box. Apparently we are gonna have a whole floor to ourselves.

Live music! Some local bands are offering to provide some free entertainment.

Some decent giveaways. No details on this yet, but we’re hoping everyone that comes gets something free. Plus there’ll be a raffle for some bigger ticket items. Namely a Raleigh XXIX, but there’ll be more.

Maybe some celebrity sightings.

The weekend is gonna be a grand time of riding and ballyhooness so make sure you’re planning a trip to Decorah, Iowa for June 23 and 24.

If you have any questions feel free to post them in the comments and I’ll do my best to get them answered.

What are the accomadations like. Camping only, or are there a few roach motels for us more soft types who prefer to sleep in a bed.

I went to college in Decorah and missed many a class to ride that sweet sweet NE IA singletrack. Hope I can make it back for it. Oh and FYI the best bike shop in Decorah is Oneota River Cycles….owner Richard “Deke” Gossen has been around the mtb scene since the 80’s and is the reason the trails in Decorah exist. Check him out and say hello.

Sevo: If you haven’t been up there lately, you’ll be happy to know that Deke and the crew have been busy adding more mileage and signing/ mapping the trails up there. It’s going to be a super fun time this summer. I can’t wait!

man, maybe we should put together an East Coast 29er bally-hoo-hah!

Actually RJ, there is the 29er Meat-Up that happened in VT last September. Meat-Up 2’s schedule will soon be disclosed

That’s right, RJ. You should hook up with The Monkey’s goings on in September, or whenever the date will be. Last years goings on looked like a blast. In fact, it’s what inspired the BWB in the first place.

Thanks to The Monkey and his unwavering support of the big wheels……..and for a really cool idea!

We’ll be doing something similar/smaller here at the homestead this spring…we just moved from york Harbor up onto Mt Agamenticus here in Maine and will be doing and all day ride dealio and then back to the house for tips, ribeyes and some of new englands finest brews!

    I’ll keep all posted.
