Planet Bike Freddy Fenders Cascadia for 29″ers: Update

February 22nd, 2007 by Guitar Ted

Splash!

I’ve been riding with the Planet Bike fenders on my Karate Monkey now for awhile, hitting every puddle I could find. I’m happy to report that they do their job exceptionally well. Only the deepest puddles even manage to get my shoes wet! And then, only the tops, since I pedal with a slight toe down style.

A couple of questions came in about the fenders for off roading and if they made noise or not. My opinion would be that for buff, smooth single track you’d be okay. Big, sharp hits, like a pothole taken at speed, will rattle the fenders side to side at the trailing end of each fender and buzz the tires. You have to almost try to do this on pavement, but off road might cause this to happen even more often.

99.9% of the time I don’t even notice the fenders are there. They ride along quietly and do their job very well. The coverage is better than my past Freddy Fenders Hardcore and the mudguards are excellent. I highly recommend the Cascadia fender line up to any commuter or anyone that has a 29″er that can mount fenders that wants to use their bike for more than just off roading. Keep in mind that the Cascadia line also includes fenders for 26″ers, hybrid bikes, touring bikes, and road bikes. Planet Bike Freddy Fenders Cascadia should be available very soon from your favorite local bike shop for an MSRP of $49.99.

    Hi Guitar Ted,

Yogi: No, I’m sorry. These fenders will clear my Bontrager XR 2.25″’s, but only just.

Yogi: You might try a custom wood fender. I know that these are available through some custom builders and you might even find a furniture maker that could steam some into shape for you. Otherwise I know of nothing currentl available that would turn the trick.
