Trek 29″ers Soon?

February 19th, 2007 by Guitar Ted

It’s being reported by those that saw Travis Brown this past weekend at an event in Texas that he was sporting a full 29 inch wheeled proto type Fuel full suspension bike! It also is being reported that he had a 29″er hardtail in tow as well.

Could this mean that Trek is going to introduce a 29″er lineup for ‘08? My guess is that there is something to this.

We will keep on top of this as the story develops!

A Fuel-based 29′er? Almost makes me want to buy a Trek.

    …almost.

Not saying that T Rek is not coming out with a 29″er and I could care less if they do, but Travis’s bike in Tejas sure looks alot like a 69er to me……

Also check out the last photo in that section…..that guy has a problem losing stuff!

name:este: Yeah, it’s hard to say from that angle, but if I had to put money on it, I’d say you were right. My inside Trek guy says he’d be surprised if it wasn’t a 69″er and that he’s seen “several around here”. However; the “guy that has a problem losing stuff” swears it was a 29″er and not only that, that Travis also had a 29″er hardtail there with him.

That last picture…….I coulda done without that! Better lay offa the Stranahan’s there mate!

Maybe you need to just adjust the title here: Source of latest Trek 29″ rumours last seen streaking dance floor at Texas Red Neck Reggae Concert…….

At this point Trek has to enter the fray. Any company that doesn’t will have egg on its face at Interbike 2007 and be wearing omelets by 2008. All the hype is now blowing in the wind for the most part but also on Cycling News there was an update on the 26 vs 29 testing I saw. BFD. Too late for the buzzer there. I don’t think that anyone should really care at this point if one is better than the other because they both just are, and always have been. Bikes that is. Run what you brung. You say tomato and I say tomatoe etc.

Originally I thought it would take 5 years for 29″ers to assimilate in to the industry, now it looks like it will be more like 9 or 10. But in retrospect it doesn’t surprise me at all. Nor will it when I see a Motiv 29″er on the Wal Mart sales floor someday.
