Mavic makes the best rims.
Hopefully they will build complete wheels ; 36"x40mm widths , in 3 cross 36 spokes,.... for the 70mm Big Apple tires from Schwalbe @ 20psi.
Dual front discbrakes stop all torque-steer ; & create 1/2 the heat of a single.
The larger the wheel , the more brake power is required.

One last thought before I knock off for the night. I've learned that pretty much, if you can dream it up.....someone can build it. 36 inch tires are all the marvel for bicycles right now, but one day they too will be replaced by something bigger and better. I thought I'd seen everything when I saw a CAR driving down the road with 30 inch rims, and now I see that rims come in 32, 34, 36, 42, and even 46 inch. I can't even imagine the size of tire someone would mount on a 46 inch rim, but like I said, if you can dream it up, someone can build it. Next thing you know will be pedaling down the road on a tricycle with 41 inch tires.

And I thought I had read somewhere that the 36er tires were mounted on 762 mm rims, which seems rather strange considering the 2 1/4 inch width (or close to that that I have read). With a 2 1/4 inch width, or roughly 58 mm, it calculates out to around 34.6 inches, which would mean that the tire should rightfully be a 35er. However, if this tire were mounted on a 792mm rim, overall diameter would calculate to around 35.8 inches, in which it could still be called a 36er. Anyone have an idea exactly what size rim these tire are normally attached to?

I've been enjoying my 29er ever since it arrived in early March. No doubt about it, after riding my 29er, I'll never go back to anything smaller. Somehow though, I have a feeling if i rode a 36er, I'd ditch my 29er in a heartbeat. I've been searching for a bike with tires bigger than 29 inch for the past three years or so, hoping to find some 32 inch or even 34 inch. 36 inch is even better. I would love to see even bigger, such as 39 inch, 43 inch, or even 47 inch tires! That would be an interesting set up to maintain a short enough frame to ride with 47 inch tires. Maybe someday, when 36ers catch on in the rest of the world, and they become a more common bike, perhaps I'll get one. But for now, I'm content with my 29er.

They wouldn't need dual brakes with Hydraulic brakes and a larger diameter Disc Rotor.
There is more mechanical advantage further from the axle.

36" Wheels need dual disc brakes on the front.
A dual cabled brakelever is already out.
My preference is dual Tecktro CR 720 Cantilever brakes on the front wheel, mounted on both sides of the fork. ( single on rear )
1" nipples ; 5" hubflanges ; 3 cross spokes ; 40mm rim , would make a strong light wheel.
Schwalbe will probably want to make Big Apples for it , in 75 & 90mm widths. At 22psi all potholes will be felt the least , of all other bikes period !

44" wheels with 1/2" oak spokes is going to be my next woodworking project.
2" wide rim fo rthe 3" BA's.
