Bontrager Tubeless Ready System 29″er Wheel Set
February 8th, 2007 by Guitar TedTwenty Nine Inches has just recieved a Bontrager Tubeless Ready System 29″er Race X Lite wheel set in for testing/ review. We’ll be also recieving the final piece to the system: the tires, when they become available. In the meantime, we’ll be running these with standard tires to test out the wheels themselves and get a feel for this wheel system.
Here are the specs for the wheels we recieved. All weights are from my digital scale and measurements were taken by me using a digital calipers.
Rim Dimensions: Outer width- 23.4mm
Inner cavity width: 18.8mm
Outer Depth: 19.8mm
Notes: Rims are single eyeleted, and have a tubless specific
bead hook that is designed to work in conjunction
with the provided rim strips that lock into place in
the inner rim cavity. Tubes and standard tires can
be used as well. The rim is disc specific: no rim
brakes can be used.
Hub Dimensions and Spoke Info:
The hubs are of assymetrical flange diameter design, with
the larger flange on the disc side. The flange diameter on
the disc side is 58.0mm while the drive side flange diameter
is 50mm. The free hub body can be exchanged for an
available aluminum one to further lighten the rear wheel.
The spokes are DT Swiss and laced with alloy nipples in a
cross 2 pattern for both wheels. The wheels have 28 spokes
each.
Weight: Note: The weight listed here includes everything the wheel system
comes with, which includes the following: Tubeless rim strips,
presta valves, caps, aluminum/ titanium skewers, and the
wheels for a total weight of 1980 grams.
I’ll have an update with photos posted up in the next day or so. A ride impression will follow, weather permitting, in the next few weeks. A big thank you goes out to Bontrager Wheel Works for providing this set of wheels for us to check out. Thanks!
