Details On Manitou “Minute” 29″er Fork

February 5th, 2007 by Guitar Ted

The Manitou “Minute” 29″er fork, of which protos were seen floating around at Interbike this past fall, is set to be the next new 29″er option in suspension forks. We have learned that the fork is planned to be offered in 80mm, 100mm, and 120mm options, comes standard with 9mm dropouts, or Manitou’s 20mm Hex Lock thru axle option. Tire clearance is reported to be generous, with room for a 2.5″ 29″er tire. A release date hasn’t been set yet, nor has any other info come our way, but we will pass on anything news worthy as we get it.

Rumor has it that this fork will be offered in a longer offset than the traditional 26″er offset of 38mm. We do not have confirmation on that, but it wouldn’t be too much of a surprise, seeing as how Manitou supplies the front suspension for Fisher’s G-2 geometry 26″ers that have a longer offset in the crown already.

There is a tread about this on MTBR.com, and an ad on the back of the most recent Dirt Rag Mag. Anyway, I cannot wait to get my hands on one.

oliver: Yep, saw that too. Just passing along the good news. It’ll be an interesting fork, and hopefully it’s as good if not better than a Reba.

    Hey GT,
What is the current offset of a Reba 29er? In Addition, do you have any idea of a price point on that fork? I hope the price will be on par with RS, and not 800 like the Pace fork.

    39mm for the Reba.

Ok, thanks Cloxxki. Now what is the offset of the new HIFI forks?

How good are the Manitou forks? I have never ridden one. Are their 26″ versions comparable to Fox? White Bros? Rock Shox?

oliver: I haven’t checked, but I think it’s something like 43mm. I’ll see if I can’t dig that info up for you.

Tim: Manitou forks have been pretty top notch forks over the history of the company. Recently though, the company has experienced hiccups in different areas that have allowed Rock Shox, Fox, and Marzocchi to pass them by in certain areas.

Now with the acquisition of Manitou by the HB Group, it is hoped that they will iron out the wrinkles and return to the highest levels in service, performance, and timely delivery of products. The shocks themselves are great, just not everyone’s cup of tea.

I think that if they can produce a stiff, flex free platform with a plush, progressive feeling stroke for 29″ers you’ll see lots of folks sporting these, and hopefully soon.

Talked to the CDN distributor today and they are hoping to see the Minute 29 in June, and wholesale cost is to be almost identical to the Reba Race.

Looking more and more like my new Custom will have this fork on it. I’ll keep the Reba handy just in case, but initial word is positive. 3 weeks and counting for the new frame…

Any idea on pricing and official availability on these forks? I’m particularly interested in the 120mm T/A w/TPC damping.
