Looks nice…clean….and spec’d well
Looks pretty good for the price. I do not see disk tabs on the fork — are there any there. For a bike with a EBB the disk tabs should definately be on there.
Best looking GT ever! Since it’s steel, it’s got to smooth out that normal battle-wagon GT ride. Kewl!
So this is another example of anti geared-bike bias? I see no der. hanger either. Perhaps it’s a price point issue?
I don’t like the plethora of SS specific frames out there already….
Ed: No disc tabs for the ‘07 model. In ‘08, it has been reported that they will be there.
I’m impressed. Just $80 more than the Redline Monocog, but you get a vertical wheel removal, branded parts and a nicer “looking” frame. Otherwise quite similar.
The thin-at-dropouts frok might be quite soft. I wonder how it handles hard braking.
For me the first GT I wouldn’t mind buying. EBB’s don’t appeal to me, but in such a package it’s pretty cool. Better than horizontals anyway.
What’s the hubs? I hope not a freewheel system, or non-disc.
http://www.gtbicycles.com/ says $599, makes more sense.
Less sense make the STA’s. A degree slacker per size, without correcting TT increments.
S
M
L
Seat Tube Angle
73.0
72.0
71.0
Top Tube Length
568.78
603.13
619.57
Let’s look at M and L.
Top top increases 16.44mm.
STA decreases 1ยบ > ~12mm of reach is lost.
Net : ~4mm longer reach for the L over the M, despite a normal TT length increment.
However, S>M, the difference in TT is huge, 34.25mm
After STA correction ~22mm is left over.
And why no XL size? Because if they continued the table it would be all weird? Or because tall dudes don’t like 29″ers? Other way around?
Ed: no disc tabs, which is def my first question on the bike. I’ve submitted that question to them to see what their future plans are.
Cloxxki: I too like the improvements in just the $80 different from the Monocog. All Truvativ parts are def a step up. And the price on the GT website is $549.99.
Also, the hubs are non-disc specific.
So far, I really like the spec list you get with the bike, just not to thrilled with not having a disc brake option.
Hey All -
The price is $549 for the Peace 9r. The Peace (26″ wheels, discs) retails for $599.
Disc tabs - we wanted a clean/simple frame here. However, we are planning on having disc tabs on next year’s bike. The 07 model’s front hub is a disc hub in case the buyer decides to swap out with a disc-only suspension fork.
Size - the three sizes offered will fit most riders. I’m 6′1.5″ and it fits me just great.
Oh, and it’s a cassette rear hub. No spin-on freewheel here.
Hope this helps
-Chris
Hey GT! You seems to have some specs mixed up. 426mm chainstays on a 29″ers with a straight seat tube design?
And what’s with the weird minute reach between sizes? Why those STA’s?
whoops, corrected. We had the Peace 26″ spex dropped in on the US side.
Sorry about that.

That’s quick! I was looking at the 26″ specs before, didn’t realize people still made those in SS
Longer top tubes now, but still the dropping STA’s reducing reach increase to near zero when going up a size. Why is that, please?
I’ll find out once the product manager and engineer are in the office (they’re 2 time zones behind me).
OK, right from the source, RE: seat tube angles…
The seat tube angles get steeper as the frames get smaller to accomodate for riders shorter femur lengths and also to improve toe over-lap clearance.
Hope this helps.
-Chris
Thanks Chris!
I figured that, it’s sort of common practice to do that to some extent.
MUCH MUCH better solution, being a powerful OEM, would be to offer 10mm crank length increments per frame size, and corrected BB heights. Leave the angles alone, they’re the same for midgets and giants.
In 26″, you’re pretty much offering 3 M’s with different seat tube lengths and very different stem. Such different handling between sizes because of that…more than the difference in rider height.
Is this bike available for sale yet?
Is it just me or this one geared rather high for a singlespeed? A 16t cog is normal for a 26-inch wheeled bike.
Thanks for getting one in house. Looks like the front hub is non-disc?
Looking forward to your review of how she pedals!

Hmmmm not sure if I was supposed to find this…

I like that color!!! Looks like a great bike at an awesome price. Am I reading right also that the L has a TT of 24.4″?! That means I will be on a Medium. Wow
downhillfaster: not sure on that one, I’ll find out from the GT Marketing Guy
GCG199: It is def geared pretty low. The GT site specs it out with an 18T cog, however mine arrived with a 16T. I’ll prob jump it up to a 20T since I’m a wimp like that.
DGDris: The front hub can hold a disc, so you have the option of swapping the front fork for a disc specific one
Had my first ride yesterday and did my best to kill myself on the 16T cog. I’ll be switching it out today and going for another ride. My First Impression post will be either Sunday or Monday. Stay tuned…
The next batch is due in to our warehouses in early Jan.
The alternate (gold) color is offered internationally only. The US only gets the white version.
Hey Mondo -
07 is the first model year for the Peace 9r. They were launched in September and the first batch sold thru. The next batch, due in after the first of the year, are still 07s and still have no disc tabs. There never was an 06 model year Peace 9r.
The 08s will have the disc tabs, but they won’t be out for about 10 months or so…
-Chris
GT, please make this a disc-only frame next year…no need for v-brakes…
As we have just received ours here in England. Interesting to read all these comments. Great to know they’ve so well received, we were nervous of stocking them precisely because there are no disc tabs. But hey doesn’t seem to be TOO much of a problem to you guys.
Just had a test ride on a Peace 9er over here in the UK on a REALLY wild and windy (25mph gusts) Sunday afternoon. First ride of a 29er after reading this site for last 6 monthss and I was impressed. Ridden 26″ SS for a few years now and loved the bigger wheel ride. Going to make room in the garden shed and ride a some white lightning home tomorrow!!!! Oh, and I like simple, light SS…no tabs, no problems. Happy trails all.
hmm, the welding seems to be not really good work! i thought gt would take more care in this item…
greetings from the other side of the atlantic
Is it a prototype or full production? Proto’s are generally not welded as nice as production.
This particular bike was a pre-production sample. Not quite prototype, not quite production. I received this bike from the factory in June, they weren’t in full-blown production until Sep.
GT marketing guy - Are the 08’s out yet?
The 08s will hit early October, we have a couple more 9r offerings in the works.
