is this the same bike that raced GDR race???

Yes and no, Mr Anonymous. It’s similar in paint scheme and Lefty fork, but that’s about it. Even the geometry is different on the production model versus Matthew Lee’s GDR winning rig. Matthew got shorter chainstays and a bit lower BB than the production model did.

Interestingly, Mr. Lee has a post started on mtbr.com in the Cannondale forum that would indicate a possibility of getting a better spec on the bike for those that bug their dealers for it. Mentioned was a carbon Lefty, X-9, and Industry 9 wheelset.

Also hearing that the Caffeine 29″er may be delayed until November now. I don’t have any reason as to why, but I’ll be digging into this. Originally it was due in mid September for purchase.

I think it wasn’t on Eurobike. I looked, but didn’t find it, bummer.

    Mr Guitar Ted,

Do you have the link to the Matthew Lee post in mtbr.com? My LBS guy said my area C-Dale rep denied any such program to get better specs on the 29er.

I wonder whether they could not make a 100mm Lefty happen? 26″ Lefty’s come in 130mm, right? Reduce travel, and ready!
Lefty seems overkill for an 80mm fork, although I know weight is probably better than most other offerings in the category.

CP Scholz: Here is that thread link

Cloxxki: My informants tell me that the travel limiting for any Lefty is accomplished by the use of two plastic spacers, or circlips. (I haven’t actually been inside of one to know exactly what they are) But I have been assured that it is rather easy to do and can be done to just about any Lefty to allow for the use of a 29″er front wheel. A 100mm Lefty is entirely possible then by utilizing the longer travel Lefty as a basis for the conversion.

I got a f29er last spring after losing my 04Giant Rainer that i was so matched with it had some nice components and a tight fit…I lost it in a fire of my studio…..at first I had some trouble getting decent cushion from the highly rated lefty but after afew tweeks from the cdale shop… i asked about the fork pressure and at first it was high and then I figured that maybe I should lower pressure and hey it did the trick! I really love this bike,,,it is fast and smooth, tall too as I am. a good match. I roll past stuff I used to have to jump over way cool bike…I was turned off to the blue ish frame but love the high brite alluminum frame it matches my caad8 road bike!
