Specialized 29×2.3″ tire in the making?

July 9th, 2006 by Cloxxki

It would be called “Experience”. Sounds to me like an All-Mountain type of tire.

That’s we heard so far, this is all a spy at the Specialized 2007 product presentation has leaked to us.
So, more investments into 29″ tires at Specialized, frames or bikes yet to be announced.
Note that the current 29×2.0 Fast Trak Pro tire is about as bike as the 2.25″ Bontrager XR and 2.3″ WTB Exiwolf. A 2.3″ Specialized tire would not be something to use a mini-pump on.

The list of 2.3″ and larger tires on their way to us is getting longer and longer. Half a year from now, this sport should look quite a bit different in terms of tire selection.

Are the Fast Tracks readily available to purchase or are they sold out?

    Fast Traks

I’m on a crusade to get people to spell that right :-)

Don’t know about availability. Try the source, their own .com.

That whole post could use a little proofreading to be honest.

Wouldn’t help a bit, I’m not an English speaker, what you’re reading is all I got!

Did you mean the fast trax is as wide as the bontrager?

What I want is a 29er version of the WTB mutanoraptor race 2.4.

    Fat and light.

Word is that the casing for this tire might just be gargantuan! Perhaps some people will actually be disappointed when they find out it’s TOO big for their stays!

For the record, WTB is supposedly coming out with some 29″er tire that is bigger than the Exi Wolf is. The Haro Mary 29″er was designed around it’s dimensions.

OK, how much is this thing going to weigh? me thinks too much. or maybe the Speckleized peeps are working on a DH 29er?

No such thing as too much, although I do prefer light.
Just today on the commute home, my 1000g tires totally pestered the heck out of a fit roadie on sub-200g tires. He managed to stay with me, barely :-)

Lightweight FAT race tires can be made, agressive ones not. Luckily, the same goes for 26″ tires, so the difference will always be minute.

I’m personally more excited about the offering Panaracer will be letting lose on us yet this summer (or Fall?). That should be a HELL of a tire.

I’m all for it, as long as the sidewalls are stronger than the WTB DNA tires. I just picked up an Exi (DNA) for the front of my KM. Huge difference with reagrd to feel over the cheapo Moto. I’m hesitant to run one in the rear though due to past experinces w/DNA and rocks on the Walt. I’ve only run WTBs so far because I like a wider tire, the Specialized sounds great - especially for the front end of a rigid bike. Hopefully it’s got tough sidewalls.

29er DH BIKE - I’M ALL ABOUT IT
I WORK AT A SKI RESORT AND RIDE ALOT OF DH STUFF AND I BELIEVE 29ERS EXCEL MORE ON THE DH THAN ANYWHERE ELSE. IF SOME ONE COULD FIGURE OUT HOW TO COMBINE LONG TRAVEL AND BIG WHEELS. THAT PERSON WOULD BE MY SAVIOR. 29ERS DOWNHILL!! PS I JUST BEAT MORE THAN HALF THE FIELD IN THE PRO SUPER-D AT THE NORBA NATIONAL -ON A 29ER HARDTAIL.

Bucky, way to represent for sure. You need to see what BCD is doing along the lines of a full blown DH machine:

Scroll down for pic. The missing ingredient is a tire but that will be along at some point.

FYI, The new 29 x 2.3 tire is up on Specialized website under competitive XC. The tire is called Revolution Pro D2. If you remember the Adrenaline, it looks just like it with a dual compound tread 65 center and a 55 outeredge.
