2007 Gary Fisher Paragon Pictures

June 16th, 2006 by Tim Grahl

Here’s some pictures of the 2007 model of the Paragon from Gary Fisher sent to me by George of Bike29.com:

The color is Bright Red as you can see. The only difference between the 06 and 07 is the flat bar, which is a Bontrager Race Lite Big Sweep. It is 640mm with 12 degrees of sweep. The brakes have been down spec’d to the Juicy 5s.

its just like an up graded X-Caliber from 06

  2. 2 MMcG

it looks the same as an 06 I saw in my lbs. Also, why didn’t fisher fix what I feal is a flaw in the seat tube design - they need to put a brace in there somewhere don’t you think?

  3. 3 Sevo

No brace needed for such a design it’s been done for years without issue. Besides a brace makes the bike look oh so ugly. Look at the Salsa 29ers for instance. Beautiful excep that damn brace.

Then why have so many of them cracked at the seat tube top tube junction???

  5. 5 harold

That’s news to me, and i know lots of hard riding folks who have those bikes. Could it be that somebody’s riding without enough seatpost in the bike?

What is the msrp on this bike? The spec seems kind of downgraded, especially since it doesn’t appear to come with the new 2007 SRAM X.9 stuff and the brakes have been downgraded. What do you think is a fair price for the bike out the door?

there are ways to fix the seat tube area without adding one of those ugly gusset’s, and that is exactly what Fisher has done.

  8. 8 MMcG

what did they do to the seat tube junction area to reinforce it? It would be great to know that they’ve addressed the issue. If so, good stuff to Fisher/Trek for the attention to the issue.

  9. 9 funkenstein

I’m sure it was a weld and or wall thickness issue, all I know is that it’s been addressed, without a gusset!

The local Gary Fisher dealer where I live sells the 2006 Paragon for $1630. He’s getting a 2007 Paragon tomorrow and quoted me $1530, which is $100 cheaper, which is the difference in Juicy 7 vs. Juicy 5 breaks. But he made is sound like he was doing me a favor by lowering the price $100 because it’s been taking forever to get me a 21” frame, instead of telling me the breaks changed, which makes me not trust him any more. Is $1530 a good price? And does anyone know what the MSRP is?

Regarding the cracked seat tubes on early 2006 models, Fisher did make two running changes back in November to fix the issue. First, we reduced the size of the seat tube extension and second, we increased the butting of the seat tube. We have not heard of any further issues after the change.

I was looking at the GF site when all of a sudden the following page came up. I think they may be updating the site for 07 changes. The image was missing (Paragon > Ice Red) but the description looked like the 07 lineup:

Interesting. The wholesale price is exactly the same as last year’s model.
I wonder what they have in the works as a final spec.

Here is the URL. Note it does not always come up with the 07 info.

    white forks….eeeacck!

  16. 16 Timothy

I think it is pulling the info up for the 2005 model. It’s color was Ice Red.

  17. 17 Russ

I think Timothy is right. Whatever info it’s pulling up isn’t correct. The Fisher shop I’m near got their 2007 Paragon yesterday. The color is Ice Red, the breaks are Juicy 5, the handle bar is the Big Sweep and the front derailleur is XT now. I think the rest is the same as last year, but the bike wasn’t built yet. The MSRP is $1799.

On the subject of price for a Fisher Paragon, I bought a 2006 2 monthd ago for $1300. I love the bike. I changed to seat to WTB Laser Team and the bars to a flat FSA bar. Yes, the Paragon is an upgraded X-caliber. Shame about the down grade of the Juicy 7 to 5.

Just got my 2007 Paragon yesterday… Sure the brakes are Juicy 5, but the front derailleur is XT. The pedals are shimano m505 instead of m520, however. I’ll also be replacing the seat sometime in the near future. If you want to smoke your friends on the trails- especially climbing, get this bike! I also like the 07 colors much better than the 06 scheme. Overall an awesome bike… best $$ I’ve spent in a while

Was the 2006 29er X-caliber the same looking frame as the now 2007 29er Paragon? Were they or are they basically the same set up?
