New Raleigh XXIX SS 29er
May 16th, 2006 by Tim GrahlThe first picture of the new Raleigh 29er is now floating around. Yes it’s a hardtail singlespeed. Yes we have lots of these. But the good news is another “major” player has jumped into the 29er fray.

Well, it’s not JUST another one in a string of steel 29″ singlespeed hardtails. It’s actually a rigid-specific!
Look at that, the fork can’t be more than 425mm, where the Pace 29″ is 465mm and the Niner even 480mm.
If you run an 80mm suspension fork in this, it choppers out to a downhill hardtail, but the headtube is probably not built for that.
For those that like rigids, and the looks of riser handlebars, choice #1!
Sizes offered : S, M, L.
29″ers are for little people, apparently…
Yeah! It is about time that Raleigh offered a 29er. I just hope that there is a geared version coming along down the road. Maybe now even Specialized will get in on the 29er’s.
Yes, a geared version will be possible when the hangered drop out is available. It will require a full housing run on this frameset. A possible geared only version is coming in the fall, if sales figures for this bike show promise. At this point, dealer response was very positive and the first size run was sold to dealers within days of it’s presentation.
I really like this bike, but if it has an EBB I’m not so sure about it.
Picked mine up yesterday at Bike Cycles in Wilmington NC This thing is a GREAT bike Loads of fun last night tearing up the woods near my house can’t wait to take it to the NCmountains and hit the fire roads. Yes it has an EBB suspension fork just adds a bunch of weight you real don’t need.
Thanks Shawn
I just got my Raleigh 29er SS Wednesday and have been on it everyday since… It is a great ride, but different ride from my Heckler.
The xxix is a great bike. As for the EBB that everyone is ragging on, its really the best way to avoid having to readjust the rear disc brakes every time you tension the chain. Also, you can run quick release wheels on the back so you won’t need to carry a 15mm wrench with you all the time.
Will a large work for me. I am a 6′3 225lb 34″ inseam roadie looking to rekindle my off road past. This thing looks killer. I hope the large works, I ordered it tonight sight unseen
Matt H: Yes, I think you’ll fit that fine. Enjoy the ride!
