On-One Carbon fork sample pics
April 17th, 2006 by CloxxkiAs you may have read, On-One is getting ready to make us the fork Bontrager promised us : reasonably priced, 29″, carbon.
We previously posted CAD images, and here’s the first sample pictures. Check out that crown!
Pics were taken in Taiwan at the factory, so no weight info yet.
You’ll notice the scratchmarks on powdercoated dropouts, so a different finish will be used for production. Black ano would be nice, me thinks?
Fancy logo stickers are promised as well.
The yet unnamed fork will come in standard and plus size. The latter will have 29″ suspension corrected geometry, with the 29″-specific 47mm offset already seen on the steel On-One Inbred29 forks. It ensures snappy handling, and will lighten up the normally slower handling of especially S and M sized 29″ers out there that were born with slacker head tubes.
Matched to the On-One Scandal scandium hardtail frame, some 3 pounds could be saved over the highly praised steel Inbred frame and fork.
More details to follow, enjoy the sneak peaks!

Unbelieveable…
I just got a to ride a Pace and I thought that was purdy but this thing is perfect.
I have been riding the Pace for almost three weeks…
The Pace is a beautiful fork, and this On-One looks very similiar.
If the price is right, Brant will sell plenty of these, imo…especially to single speed riders.
I could use a second carbon fork myself…
R.
thanks for the kind words.
we’re very happy.
not in my hands yet, but should be in a few days.
We’ll be offering the usual crazy preorder deals on these, and they’re going to be *very very very* competitive.
It’s been a hefty investment, as we have two different crowns for the 29in and 26in fork, rather than economising and sacrificing performance with a short-rake 29er fork (though the mood I’m in, we’d probably have made a long rake 26in fork instead :-))
I have a name suggestion for the forks.
F117A
Would like to know the recommended weight max for these.
How much do you weight ncj01?
I’m 225 and falling…i’m a fairly smooth rider…
Where do we place preorders? I want two! Gorgeous.

If you are in NH, Revoultion Cyclery in Concord is an On-One dealer…
Thanks for this Brant, looks amazing.
Weight max? I am about 185 with gear.
Brant: Was there any consideration for going with a forward facing drop out. Some folks have concerns about disc brakes and “standard” drop out configurations.
Also, the fork looks gorgeous, but would leaving the “beauty weave” outer layup off and just using the unidirectional carbon as an outer layer have saved any significant weight?
Any info on the crown forging as far as the type of aluminum, or any bits of info you could share concerning the unique design of the crown. That shape is a very unusual one, at least I think so.
Thanks for pushing this through and in a rake that is twenty niner friendly.
1) The dropouts angle is a consideration not just for disc forces, but also splay bump forces - it’s possible to have a wheel bounce out of even fully horizontal dropouts - I had it happen on a set of prototype forks I made in 1990. Subject to final testing, we think we’re on the money with this one.
2) Weight of single layers of carbon doesn’t really come into it. We like the look
3) The crown is a forging of high strength alloy, with as little post-forge machining as we can do.
What’s the rake on the 26er version? My rigid 29er is non-susp corrected so I need a fork ~440mm A/C. Will the 26er suit my needs?
Brian, the On-One website says 38mm offset for the 440mm version. What are you running now?
38mm is what “all” 26″ XC suspension forks offer. Offers some stability to the inherently twitchy wheels
Thanks Clox. Didn’t think to check the website…doh! Not sure what the offset of my current fork is, will have to find out.
Wonder how the Pace 26er does on a 29er? That would give me a decent idea if this is worth trying.
Brant…, some integrated cable guides, perhaps? Looks super-cool, though.
-Sean
Sean - yes - maybe. It’s something I’m thinking of. We’ll see.
Brant: Thanks for your prompt answers. I agree, the fork looks great. Now I see that Panaracer is planning on a tire called the Rampage that is to be about 2mm wider and a bit taller than anything we currently have on offer for 29″er tires. Is the clearance on your upcoming fork here going to be enough to clear this new tire and have a bit of room left over? I realize that the crown is safe, as it is suspension corrected, I was thinking about the distance between the carbon legs. It would seem that folks wanting this fork will also be running the fat, cushy tire for the ultimate in rigid plushness.
As for the caps on the top of each leg, it seems that it might be a good place to put a battery pack for a lighting system. Or maybe a yard of your favorite draw. Just a couple of ideas!
The width between the legs is currently around 83mm. I think they’ll be room
Ted, don’t you think this fork will have inserts similar to Pace uses? Without having seen the fork, I bet those caps aren’t hiding a complete hollow carbon tube. Would be nice though.
What is the weight limit on this one? I’m at the weight limit of the Pace….but add gear/water, I’m over….hoping this might be a touch beefier…just a touch…
Yes. Weight limits por favor. Husky lads like carbon too.
I think there should be seperate weight limits for Ventana owners and riders that break Lenz frames in two.
That’s weightest you profiler!
