Who pooped on the pavement and didn’t clean it up? The Mav is the best part of that bike.

I can’t say that I’m excited about this. I’ve told my Trek reps as much. When Fisher can’t even keep 29ers in stock in sufficient quantites to meet demand, whay are they branching away from somethign that clearly is working for them? I understand the need to differenciate between the brand names, but why in this direction?

I’m guessing that Trek wants to use the Travis Brown phenomenon to push “niche” bikes (remember the pink . And some brand identity must remain. It would just seem logical that Trek would make an OCLV 29er (geared) and rake in some high-end cashola rather than try and latch on to Carver’s 50/50 solution.

And you’re right, the Mav fork is the best part of that bike!

    Lame…

Maverick forks are great but isnt 5+ inches of travel on a hardtail a little much?

I just ordered an Orbea 29er…cant wait to build it!

Dunno. I ran 5″ on my SS hardtail for aggro DH runs.

well, the maverick fork WOULD be the best thing about the bike, but it has been custom tuned to 80mm, and will come that way on all the bikes. so, essentially it is the stiffest race fork in the world, but not tunable for real people.

i personally have a lot of history with maverick forks, and they are the whip, but i don;t know about in 80mm form.

I’ve already got my name on the list to get one! As far as the fork goes its 100mm which is just short of 4 inches, not 5.

how much does it weigh though, and on other sites the down tube is slightly bent.

rock on Trek. Takes nuts to build this bike…Just like a lot of us believe in the 29er setup, there are others who believe in the 69er/96er…Just like there are plenty of folks who say 29ers are bunk…

I was just at the bike shop last night and weighed a 21″ 69er; 25.5 lbs. They are getting in a 17.5″ for me today so I’ll check the weight on that.. It’s temping to build up a bike from scratch but I think this bike is pretty sweet too. The rear drops outs are very nice…

If you really want a rig you can find one. We’re not building that many because the demand worldwide is small. We’re not going to duplicate a 29er at Trek just for name sake. As far as color choice, consumers pic the colors not us! Root Beer was the over all favorite for this model.

    Thanks for your support!

OK, so I just got back from testing this sucker out. It was 23.8lbs in 17.5″ with all the reflectors, etc.. and no pedals.

I like the color a lot. The fork could stand to not be color matched but it still looks good IMO.

I think I’m going to get it but that is a lot of cashola for a single speed!

I just stopped at a shop in Gville Fl. for a pair of gloves and to look at glasses I walked out the proud owner of a 69er. Rode it today for 20 miles of single track and so far I am in love. My Kona Unit 2-9 will be on ebay this week. It is a little pricey but the dealer did discount it $500.00
and as my wife said life is short we could be dead tomorrow enjoy it while we can. P.S. mine is a 17.5 and I have not had it weighed but it feels lighter than nearly 24lbs.

I got one as well, just days after my original post. I’ve put a Ritchey WCS carbon bar and seat post on it along with a XTR 970 crank and 4ti egg beaters. Need to re-weigh it but it is certianly over 23.5lbs stock without pedals. With any luck I’m just under 23 now…

i saw a guy with the brown one, but it was geared… is that possible to get, or did he just tweak it out? on the website, its white.
i’ve taked to a few people who have this bike, or have ridden it. i haven’t heard a bad thing about it yet. i’m pretty serious about getting one. anyone know why i shouldn’t???

  16. 16 Dave

I’ve got a 19.5 and its right at 24 pounds. The maverick for did go out on me. But maverick was very quick about getting it back. They have around a 3 day turn around on them. Over all i love the bike. So don’t slam it until your ride one, it will change your mind.

  17. 17 joshua

I really like mine. When your fork failed Dave what happened? I’ve been getting an occasional clunk from the fork on hard hits….

  18. 18 Dave

    Joshua,

That sounds like what happened to mine. After awhile it started bottoming out really easy(no matter how much air you put in it). It seem to be something very common that is happening to alot of the Maverick fork that came on the 69er. If you give maverick a call talk to a guy in there tech department named Ethan. Really nice guy.
