More Maxxis 29er Tires
February 28th, 2006 by Tim GrahlAccording to a source from Maxxis, they’ll be releasing two of their current 26 inch tires in a 29 inch version.
The 26×2.10 Maxxis CrossMark is due for the 29er upgrade sometime this year with the ADvantage following sometime in 2007.
However, as these things go, I talked with their marketing department and he says there are no plans for either of them. Only thing going is vague talks about perhaps doing something in 2007.

Tim: Maxxis was spewing this news at the QBP dealer show last week. All the Salsa crew seemed to think it was legit. Tire news is often “deflating” in the end though, so we’ll see!
I wonder, how much “different” would the CrossMark be to the Ignitor? Much grippier? Much faster? It already seems to be a heavier design…
I can’t help but think they’d be better off making a MiMo or Flyweight 2.1, something more aimed at speed and weight, less on grip. Most 29×2.1″ tires in existence grip just fine already.
Cloxxki: The Cross Mark is a derivitive of the Mimo. It’s got the ramped, small knobs, but the central section of knobs a just a tiny bit blockier, and longer crossways on the carcass. I would imagine this imparts better grip, no? My buddy pointed them out and said that they were very fast and grippy, amongst his favorites in 26″.
I’d kill for a 29″ set of CrossMarks for racing. The 26″ version has great dry and moderatly loose condition traction, yet are really fast compared to Ignitors (I love the 29″ Ignitors for their excellent all round traction).
