As a front tire the Fast Trak works extremely well and I have no problem recommending it but as drive tire it needs a little more "bite" and probably won't be a good choice for any one setting up a niner single speed. I've just picked up a new Specialized Captain Control so I can't wait to try it. It looks like a highly modified Ground Control so let's hope it will work better as a drive tire. I think that in a 2.3 would make a sweet 29er tire. Also another option I think is if they replicated the FireXC 1.8 tread pattern on a 2.3 tire you'd have a really fast tire yet with a good foot print.
