Specialized Fast Trak 29er Tire on Sale
December 15th, 2005 by Tim GrahlYou can now pick up the 29×2.0″ Fast Trak tire from Specialized either at your local dealer or online for $36.99 a piece.
The people at Specialized are telling me that it’s already selling faster then expected so I’m guessing they’re gonna go out of stock sometime soon.
Also, my source says they faster they sale the more likely a bike will be next on their 29er list. Think selling the tire was a market test?
Let them know you want a 29er out of Specialized.

I guess since Specialized won’t offer a 29er themselves. I will order a pair of these to go on my New Unit 2-9. Hopefully specialized will get with the program.
The tire’s a great addition for anyone who previously found a use for Nanoraptors. These are much wider, lighter, offer better front grip (my opinion, compared to steel Nano’s) and roll more or less the same, or better.
All just get a pair and some for a friend, and get these babies out of stock asap!
At one point I may gather courage and start taking off half knobs, to open the tread a bit more for really tacky and maybe wet/muddy trails. They’d become more like my favorite 26″ mud and grass tires, the Maxxis Minotaurs, mainly much wider. Few, small realatively tall knobs, that’s just magic in ‘cross-like conditions.
Didn’t know where else to file this under but I just confirmed the rumor that Panaracer is indeed working on a true, full bodied 29er tire. They have the FireCross which is a 45mm wide tire currently they pimp as being nice for 29ers, but something better is in the works. I got this straight from the head of Panaracer USA whom I know personally so I trust it to be true.
Ahah! Let’s hope they’ll come up with a tire not because they can, but also to fill up a void in the current offerings. Really fast or really big. No sorta fast, sorta big, we have dozens of choices for that already.
I’m guessing it’ll be something along the lines of the Cinder myself. I think that in a 2.3 would make a sweet 29er tire. Also another option I think is if they replicated the FireXC 1.8 tread pattern on a 2.3 tire you’d have a really fast tire yet with a good foot print.
Schwable now offers a 29er tire!

I don’t want to thread crap but that is very old news. I know they have been offering the Little Albert for the past couple of years. I hear they wear fast and don’t work very well with Stans.
Good over all 700 er tire but really only works well in the narrow realm of NORBA style race conditions, i.e., hard pack with loamy soil, roots, rocks but no heavy mud or scree.
As a front tire the Fast Trak works extremely well and I have no problem recommending it but as drive tire it needs a little more “bite” and probably won’t be a good choice for any one setting up a niner single speed.
I’ve just picked up a new Specialized Captain Control so I can’t wait to try it. It looks like a highly modified Ground Control so let’s hope it will work better as a drive tire.
