Supercaliber price
December 12th, 2005 by Tim GrahlThe price on the Gary Fisher Supercaliber, due out in May or June, has been set at a $2600 retail. However, as with anything six months out, this is a tentative price.
Also, I saw a rumor floating around that Klein may be coming out with a 29er and according to my source this is false.

That Klein rumor was just thrown out there on MTBR to get responses, the poster admitted that himself in the same thread
IMO it would be unwise not to follow up on that rumor and use this to sell more bikes. Otherwise Klein just seems like an expensive hobby for Trek to me.
Will it be sold frame-only? Any upgrade path for GF 29er hardtail owners?
let’s hope this one( the frame) doesn’t break like the 292 has been doing on a regular basis. The price seems similar to the 292. Any more news on the weight of the frame with rear shock? Seems like your earlier posts suggested it was going to be significantly lighter than the 292.
Here is an update: I spoke with Ryan Atkinson of Fisher today. The availability of the 29 inch wheeled Super Caliber will be in June of ‘06. Right now, as a full bike only, and in only the “Super Caliber” level. Note: The 26 inch wheeled version will be out first, a couple months earlier, and be available in three levels of spec. They hinted that the 29 inch version “may” be available in different spec levels in future model years.
As for the durability issues- yes, they are being addressed! The performance issues are also being addressed. Double pass welds are being employed to reduce stress risers, and act as “gussets” in a lightweight frame package. The chainstays are elevated to address the chain jam problem that plagued Sugar bikes. The 29 inch version is also getting it’s own special tuning, and handling tweaks to make it perform optimally with the larger wheels. Being a race bike that is going to be used professionaly, the design also incorporates the ability to run a 2X9 set-up optimally. It will be specc’ed with a triple for public consumption. Ryan assured us that the design is going through rigorous field and lab testing to be rid of the bugs from the past.
Sorry for the long comment, but I thought it was more appropriate here.
FWIW: Bontrager guy’s at the Trek University seminar held today in Des Moines, Iowa, said that the Tubeless system 29 inch wheels/tires are still in developement and are coming!
Now you aren’t buddying up to the GF marketing dept are you Ted? As I recall from previous posts of yours, you usually aren’t, ummmm, so agreeable with what comes out of there.
Tim, Ryan has known of me for awhile now, long before the dispute over the Super Caliber and tubeless wheels. Yesterday was the first time we met face-to-face. And anyway, as it turned out, my other source was closer to being right about the whole ordeal. It’s just that the marketing guys- the “faces”, as it were, of these companies do not necessarily like or enjoy it when news gets out through the cracks, cause- you know, it’s “there job” to control all of that. No big deal! Ryan is a great guy and an advocate of 29 inch wheels that is in a place where he has FAR more influence than some old shop rat out in Iowa does! So, I defer to him! Ha ha!
thanks for the update…will it by lighter than the current 292 which is beastly at 28-29 lbs including some expensive upgrades????
I had a 19inch 292 which came down to 27lbs with just a wheel upgrade. Although i did experience the chain jamming problem i never broke the frame despite a full season of rocky ec xc races. My only real gripe with the 292 was that it had too long a wheelbase. The supercal sounds like the ticket. I look forward to it’s arrival.
