Gary Fisher Supercaliber 29er Updates
November 23rd, 2005 by Tim GrahlAccording to my source, the Gary Fisher Supercaliber 29er is still slated for a May or June release and will be officially a part of the ‘06 line. I still say that’s a hopeful date but we’ll see.
The 26 inch Supercaliber is currently scheduled for April and the theory is that there will only be a 30 day lag until the 29 inch version is ready for production.
The first set of prototypes (that I had exclusive pictures of) were mainly getting the geometry figured out and the second round of prototypes hitting in January will be perfecting the quality and comfort of the ride by using different shapes and sizes of tubing. My guy in the Gary Fisher shop says he should be able to get some pictures of the prototypes to me once they’re closer to finished.
Another cool bit I heard about… apparantly they took both the 26er and 29er versions of the Supercaliber out and let Travis Brown and Jeremy Horgan-Kobelski run some laps on each. Both of them had their fastest lap times on the 29 inch. Yeah it’s obvious to us. But it’s nice to have proof as well.

Tim, are you going to get this dude at Trek fired, or what? Last time you scooped the pics, Ryan Atkinson seemed a little put out, judging from his post on mtbr.com. Anyway, awesome reporting there dude!
Can’t wait to see/get one.I have a cracked 292 frame now and am refusing a replacement similar frame. Waiting to get this instead. Lucky I have a back up 26″ bike in garage. Any idea on the weight with light components? I hear it should be well under the 28-29 lbs currently on the 292/293 models.
I wonder whether Travis and Jeremy were surprised to hear their times. Back in teh days I think it was some Giant pro’s that couldn’t believe they were actually faster on a full-suspension bike which seemed so tardy to them.
Pro’s seem like like constant hard spike hits on handleba rand seat to know they’re still rolling…
Now wait till they both get a hang of 29″ riding, even most pro’s will probably more than a single ride to really get the maximum out of it. Though Travis has been getting used to a 29″ front end since a few months…
Great update, keep them coming!
Nah I’m not worried. He’s just a janitor anyway, goes through the trash at night
any one have an opinion on the top 2 or 3 lightest 29er wheels?
