New 29er section and question
November 11th, 2005 by Tim GrahlI know some 29er experts come to this site so here’s your chance to show off your knowledge.
I’ve added a “Questions and Answers” section so people with questions can submit them and people with answers can give them.
First question:
I found this picture on your website:
My friend has THAT exact bike, but it has 293 on the seat stays and if you look at the Gary Fisher archives on their website for 292 you don’t see this bike. What the heck year is that bike?

Well, I’m no Gary Fisher expert, but let’s look at some clues here. First, this is a modified bike, definitely NOT stock. For starters, we’ve got a Reba, ( available for the first time in ‘05) with Race Face Next LP cranks which haven’t been available as OEM for at least three years. Notice the canti studs. That puts the frame set back at least a couple years.
My guess is that if your friend has one “exactly like that”, then someone REALLY admired his component choices! (just kidding!) Probably is the same “frameset” and the same year manufacture, just a modified spec.
It is a 2003 Gary Fisher 293.
This is Fisher 293 frame. All components and fork are upgrades. The 293 and 292 frames with the exception of the paint are the same.
It may just be the photo, but is that a 26 inch tire in the rear?
Well I was looking through the Fisher archieves and it looks like they did produce that frame color in 2003 but it had the seat stays painted and it was early in 2004 model year that they showed the carbon seat stays and this color scheme on the 293. I believe sometime shortly after the start of the 2004 season they changed the colors again. So I’m guessing this is an early 2004 model year frame.
