It’s quite natural for the rumors to be flying in the bicycle industry before Interbike, but quite unusual now. Be that as it may; the rumors are flying now anyway! Apparently some “loose lips” have let go and we may be seeing some hard news in a week or so.

The first rumor is that a major player in the industry is about to release news of a 29 inch wheeled, full suspension platform prototype. Judging from the area of the country this is coming from, I’d venture to say that it would be Specialized. They also have a 29 inch tire in their current ‘06 product catalog, but no bike to mount it to. Hmm…..I always thought that was weird!

The second rumor is that another, different company is toying with the idea of coming out with a steel hardtail single speed. This isn’t an earth shattering idea, unless it ends up being an affordable ride. Say, like under $800.00, or so. There have been rumors that Trek might be toying with the idea of having their own 29 incher, since all the Trek dealers see the Fisher Rig flying out the doors of Fisher dealers. This has some merit, as not all Trek dealers can get their hands on a Fisher, if they are not a Fisher dealer.
